GST and what to
charge the individual student ?
Dear teachers and
school administrators, please note that the bill your school gets from
us will include GST. The GST component of the program should not be
charged to students. However, you may pass on net program and net
travel costs to students. For example you book the Bug Show:
Say, of your 82
students enrolled only 75 are likely to participate due to illness or
other reason (you have to use your judgment) and your school is
located 100 km from Beverly, SA. Hence you calculate the cost for each
student as follows:
program cost = $4.50
excluding GST
travel fee = 30c per
km excluding GST
travel distance
return trip = 200km
travel costs = 200km
* 30c = $60
travel cost per
student = $60 / 75 students = 80 cents
cost to individual
student = $4.50 + $0.80 = $5.30
Alternatively, your
school may decide to subsidise the program and pay the travel cost
component for the students.
