Dainty Citrus Swallowtail Chrysalis Kit
$35.00
Dainty Swallowtails (Papilio anactus) are medium – large native butterflies that are endemic to the east coast of Australia. The caterpillars host on citrus and since the 1920’s the butterflies have extended their range into South Australia with the expansion of citrus orchards.
Don’t want the mess of a caterpillar (they poo a LOT) but still want to experience the wonder of a butterflies emergence? Then our chrysalis kit is perfect for you.
Your chrysalis comes with a perch so you can hang it up and watch your butterfly develop and emerge. (The emergence of citrus swallowtails is triggered by the right environmental conditions so chrysalis that form in summer will often emerge after a few weeks, but chrysalis that form in Autumn will often ‘over winter’ and emerge in spring. In rare cases they can remain in the chrysalis for more than 12 months).
It also comes with a mesh cover so you don’t have to worry about it flying away if it emerges when you are not home.

Once emerged your butterfly needs to be released in order to complete its life cycle.
